About Us

GENES II, an acronym for “Mobility for Plant Genomics Scholars to Accelerate Climate-Smart Adaptation Options and Food Security in Africa II” is an intra-Africa academic mobility project co-funded by the European Union. The second (GENES II) and 2024 – 2027 edition of the project was won by six collaborating higher education institution (HEI) including Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, Nigeria (Coordinating HEI), University of Abomey-Calavi, Benin (West Africa); Jimma University, Ethiopia; Egerton University, Kenya (Eastern Africa); North-West University, University of Zimbabwe (Southern Africa), and Wageningen University of Research, The Netherlands (Technical partner).

Call for Scholarship Applications – GENES II Project

Applications are invited for PhD and MSc mobility scholarships under the Intra-Africa GENES II Project, co-funded by the European Union. The programme supports training in genomic and digital technologies for climate-smart agriculture.

Upcoming EU Delegation Visit

European Union Monitoring & Project Review Visit

The European Union delegation will conduct an official monitoring and evaluation visit to the GENES II coordinating and partner institutions.

  • Date: 17th - 20th January, 2026
  • Venue: Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki
  • Participants: EU representatives, partner HEIs, project beneficiaries

The visit aims to assess project implementation, stakeholder engagement, and impact on climate-smart agricultural training in Africa.
